Mary Button Durell + La Boutique

MBD all photography via La Boutique and A&O

Some days there lies in wait a lovely surprise in your inbox this time it was the bewitching work of Mary Button Durell. The materials she uses would be familiar to any designer or architect -tissue, trace or as some lovingly call it trash- but once she has transformed it you would think it was an incredible natural phenomenon you might happen upon in an enchanted forest. Thanks for the heads up Danielle and La Boutique. See below for the details and short synopsis.

Opening Reception: June 8, 2012 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Exhibition Dates: June 8 – August, 2012 La Boutique | 414 Jackson Street, Suite 101 | San Francisco,

La Boutique is pleased to announce the opening of Flash: New Works by Mary Button Durell, beginning June 8, 2012 with an opening reception for the artist to be held on that evening from 6-8 PM.

After an eight-year absence from publicly exhibiting her work, San Francisco-based artist Mary Button Durell will be showing her most recent body of work, Flash, at San Francisco’s premier Jackson Square fashion boutique and art gallery: La Boutique, l’Art et la Mode. Building on her signature sculptural technique of layering tracing paper with a wheat paste adhesive for structural reinforcement, the artist’s translucent and organic forms will inhabit a new dimension by interacting with the properties of color—primarily neon orange—for the first time. Executed in both two and three-dimensions, Flash will comprise a body of work that incorporates sculptures and bas-relief hangings on a scaled-spectrum of intricately small to impressively large.

You'll appreciate her collaboration with Puccini Group for DIFFA San Francisco in 2011 with the assistance of lighting set on dimmers to transform her organic forms juxtaposed against the table's abrupt lines. http://diffasf.org/interior-designer/puccini-group/
