Discoveries

I came across a discovery while browsing South Willard. The photos above are from Sam Maloof's home. I've always wanted to go but somehow never made it there. I think the next Los Angeles visit it will be a must see. Since those lovely outdoor stools look oh so familiar... um there's one in my living room! See (awful...sorry) photos below. They are by none other than the talented Stan Bitters. Who is really more known for his installation pieces which are much larger and intense then our sweet little stool.

A gift from the Mister's Mom since he loved it so much as a kid. According to her she just bought it at a yard sale from a preschool in Pasadena because she loved it so... that's it no other story. I told her the other night what I discovered and she was floored.

The Best

Since Build Blog has been doing their Women in Architecture series I've been itching to share some of my favorite Women in the field. Perhaps I can even make this a weekly thing. Sounds like a good idea no? (I make no promises to this statement)

So this week its the lovely Barbara Bestor. These are some of my favorite pieces from her portfolio... well actually its really a small sampling but I can't possibly put up her entire website?! That is what a website is for after all.

What draws me to her work is the honesty in it, the simplicity, the COLOR, and the fun. What do you think? I was introduced to her work by some past professors of mine who are also quite talented and who's work I admire. Escher GuneWardena. You might also be familiar with her book which I highly recommend if not for the delicious neighborhood tour then at least for the enchanting illustrations but the combination of the two is what earned it a spot on my shelves.

Weinfeld

The more I think about this the more I want to take on the Finn Juhl challenge.

Monterey/Carmel

Some images from our short trip to Monterey & Carmel. Neither of us had ever been to the Aquarium and I chose a short trip for my Birthday this year... I enjoy them oh so much more then a celebration all about me.

Can I also say my friend Nancy hooked it up per usual. If anyone at all needs a serious travel agent have a talk with Nancy. (Nancy (at)
extramiletravel (dot) net) Sure most everything you can book online these days but do you really know what you are going to get when you arrive? She made sure we were in the sunniest part of Maui when it rained everywhere else on the island. (the entire time we were there!) She steered us toward a lovely bed and breakfast on The Cape that didn't make me cringe from the cuteness of it all nor did it give me allergies, and in Monterey she had us upgraded to the best room in the whole hotel with champagne upon arrival and those unobstructed blue sea views above are from our room.

p.s. Does anyone know anything about that barrel-vaulted house? I can't find anything on the www.

p.p.s. That squirrel standing up to my Mister just kills me.... what is he saying with that posture?
