Cecconis

Also while in Los Angeles I wanted to check out Cecconi's because well look at it... The other Cecconi's (London New York) were designed by the lovely Ilse Crawford although I couldn't ascertain from their website that it was true of the Los Angeles location. And we did check it out and it was lovely. Lovely food. Lovely service.

But man oh man was it a circus in there. Yikes! Have I been in San Francisco too long and gone soft? I just couldn't handle the scene. I found myself longing to find a place where people go for the amazing food, company, and conversation and not to find their next um... date. Don't worry LA I still love you but sometimes you can be a bit strong. I guess that is what I get for not asking friends before we went.

I still think its worth a look see, I'd just go in the in between hours and hope the usual crowd is not there.

Also Tonight

Link

I can't go because I desperately need a schedule after quite a few irregular weeks... I must get my butt to yoga but YOU should go. Laura Berger's work is oh so fun. I bought some of her work this weekend at the Renegade Craft Fair and I just love her little creatures and the colors she uses.

Summer time

Lazy days by the pool... well lazy day! Thats all I could handle... all that sun and a couple glasses of rosé and apparently thats it for me. I'm always a bit more sensitive then I think I am. By the way have you been here yet? If you live in Los Angeles or are visiting a stay of at least one night is mandatory. The remodel on this place is spectacular.

Paperdolls

As I promised, here are the paper dolls from The Mister's family lore box. These amongst others were found with the glove a couple of posts below. Whats amazing to me is not only that the paper doll was completely hand drawn and cut out but look at that wardrobe! Its pretty unbelievable, a dress for nearly every occasion and at least a few hats, and a lovely cape-like coat. The creativity is astounding... I guess when you don't have our modern distractions kids had the opportunity to indulge in their fantasies.

Speaking of I need to get back to that list I'm trying to check off.

p.s. I'm tweaking with the template/layout... do you like? Only problem now everything below looks a bit like a mess....poop!

One Glove

When the Mister and I were down in Los Angeles we stayed with his Mom for a couple of days. Most times we stay a box gets brought in from the garage and its usually filled with items from the Misters family. This time amongst the many amazing family photos was this hand knit fingerless glove... from either the early 1900's or late 1800's. It was amongst a collection of handmade paper dolls which were also amazing. I'll share those soon too.

But what do you think this beautiful hand knit glove was used for?
Was it simply a beautiful accessory or do you think there was a specific use or purpose?

Days of Yore

I know these images are off topic but I've always loved Kate, and this photo reminds me of something my Grandmother said to me once, when we were discussing My Mister and his job. She insisted there should be a dinner where I would be invited for surely my presence with the boss would make a good impression and secure his position or enable a raise or something.... actually I'm not sure what she was alluding to but it did make me giggle inside. She has a tendency to push the get married and all your problems will be solved theory. Although I will also say she pushed me into the Doctor/Lawyer fields as well when I was going for Biology and somehow ended up in Architecture. Go Figure!?

I do bizarrely enough long for days of yore. (Huge fan of Mad Men here) But all that 'women as second class' business I'm sure wouldn't sit well with me. But what I do miss is that before the late 60's and 70's people actually tried to look nice and put together, whether rich or poor. I miss this sort of formality.

I really so despise tracks suits as everyday wear (hello juicy), pajamas on the plane (Are you f***ing kidding me people) and your typical shorts and t-shirts are just plain unacceptable, that is of course unless you pair those shorts and t-shirt, with a gold bracelet, wedges, and a scarf, and perhaps some lovely earrings.
